Our Story: What is CAP
The Civil Air Patrol is the Official Auxillary of the United States Air Force. CAP started out hunting Nazi submarines and lost airplanes in World War Two.
Today CAP is a volunteer organization made up of both Cadets and Senior (adult) members. Cadets are from age 12 to age 18. Members over 18 are senior members.
Our Squadron, NER-117, serve our local community with a robust cadet program for young people to develop leadership skills and aerospace knowledge. Our Cadet Program provides a structured introduction to aerospace and leadership in a disciplined military setting focused on achievement. Together with our Senior Members, our Cadets conduct Emergency Services, Disaster Relief and Homeland Security missions on Long Island and in the Northeast Region of the United States. More details are available in the Cadet and Senior Member sections of this website.
